Overview
Welcome to the official series of fifteen study guides tailored for the Practical Vocational Training (PVT) Structured Coursework Programme for Candidate Legal Practitioners (candidate attorneys) as prescribed in terms of Regulation 6(10) of the Legal Practice Act 28 of 2014.
Purpose of the guides
These resources provided below are aligned with the amended curriculum and are designed to assist candidate attorneys in understanding the essential principles, concepts, and procedures required to become effective, competent, and confident legal practitioners. The focus of this syllabus is heavily rooted in practical vocational training rather than repeating university LLB coursework.
By working through these materials, candidates will be equipped to:
- Preparec adequately for the LPCs’ attorneys’ admission assessments.
- Navigate the syllabus through dedicated self-study, which entails approximately 400 notional hours across all fifteen guides.
- Read the law, assimilate legal principles, and apply them practically to client cases and formal arguments before courts and tribunals.
Candidate due diligence
Candidate legal practitioners are expected to engage deeply with these materials to ensure readiness for both the examinations and entering the legal profession.
Candidates are requested to:
Read each guide attentively and complete all reading material outlined in the five-paper syllabus structure for candidate attorneys which was published in the Government gazette No. 52388 on 28 March 2025; and
Further remain up to date with all latest developments in legislation and case law.
