The Legal Practice Council saddened at the passing of Professor Christof Heyns

The Chairperson of the Legal Practice Council, Ms. Kathleen Matolo-Dlepu notes with sadness the passing of human rights lawyer, Professor Christof Heyns.

Professor Heyns was the Director of the Centre for Human Rights from 1999 to 2006. He was Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Pretoria from 2007 to 2010. He also served as a member of the UN Human Rights Committee from 2017 to 2020

“As the Legal Practice Council, we would like to convey our sincerest condolences to the Heyns family, friends and the entire legal fraternity. Professor Heyns contributed to initiatives on human rights in Africa and internationally and will be sorely missed” said Ms. Matolo-Dlepu.
